Mattress guide: A good mattress results in a peaceful sleep
by Lauren Potgieter
Sleep is essential to the functioning of your body as it helps you rejuvenate your immune system and rest your mind. Your body is working even while you are sleeping, so it is essential that you obtain enough sleep to perform at your optimum level during the day. A good mattress supports your body in a particular way that helps you feel more comfortable at night and lets you sleep more soundly. This will result in a happier, well rested and more alert you.
Whether you decide to sleep in a colossal king size bed or a smaller, more conservative single bed, the firmness, support and comfort of a good quality mattress are all important indicators to determine whether the mattress that you have chosen is right for you. Because everyone’s body type is different, not everybody will feel comfortable on the same type of mattress. There is a vast array of mattresses which focus on various areas of support for your body. Different type of mattresses include: firm, memory foam, orthopedic, visco-elastic and latex.
All good mattresses should let your spine align straight when lying down on your side and obtain your natural curve when you are lying on your back. The coil count in your mattress is usually a good indicator as to how much support you bed has. The coil count is for a Double bed mattress should be at least 300 and a king size bed mattress should have a coil count of no less than 450. The comfort of your mattress is just as important as the support. The padding of a good mattress should be as firm as possible but still be comfortable. An extremely firm mattress can put pressure on the heavier areas of your body, and cause you pain, whereas a very soft mattress can also cause pain as your body will have to work more to support itself.
A good mattress is a clever investment, seeing as you spend such a significant amount of your life in dreamland. Take these factors into consideration before choosing the best mattress for your bed, and enjoy a good night’s sleep.
