What do I have in common with da Vinci and Dickens? We all use
notebooks and journals to collect our ideas, notes, inventions and
random thoughts.
I have a variety of notebooks for a variety of
purposes, though my most valued notebook is a small one that fits
into my purse. It is my idea journal.
In it I have a random collection of notes, quotes and thoughts
collected over time.
I am on my fifth idea journal since I started
carrying one two years ago.
It is the single most powerful tool in my creativity Treasure Chest.
Creativity is an activity that invites abundance and flow into the
world.
It is one way I can bring about positive change for the people
around me.
It ripples out into energy that touches others I with whom
I will never interact.
Through painting and planting and dancing, I am more ready and open to
expressing myself in my most usual form of creativity: writing.
Did you know that Michelangelo was both a Visual Artist AND a poet?
What tools do you use to stimulate your creativity?
If you are unsure how to stir up your creative juices, try different
techniques and art forms to see which fits the best in your life. I
will paint and then write or dance and then write or plant and paint
and craft and make notes in my journal and finally write.
I have a creativity chest of drawers which is filled to the brim with
paper, markers, crayon, glue, fabric, paints, brushes, stickers and
lots of other materials to enhance my projects. I even share happily
with my children and their friends. (They think I collected all this
for them!)
Recently I told a friend, "If you had told me two years ago I would
be painting to inspire my writing I would have said, "Yeah, right!"
sarcastically. Now, it is second nature to pick up some different
art form when my inner self suggests that I do.
It has been incredibly freeing AND exceedingly productive!
